TBT: To All the Books I've Hated Before--The Witching Hour

I've been hating books for a really long time, so it felt appropriate to do a TBT series of the books that still make me mad years after I read them. Mostly, I don't own these books, so this is all from memory and I'm too lazy to look anything up.

The Witching Hour book cover

Sweeping Family History, Curses, Spooky Things, Witches, New Orleans~ 100,000+

Anne Rice~ 500-

A lot of people love Anne Rice and the "Vampire Chronicles". I've read many of them, and they're okay. I didn't feel moved by them at all, but I got it. I've also read a few of her romance novels (Belinda, anyone?), and liked those slightly more, but in general I'm indifferent. So, I didn't necessarily go into reading this book with high expectations, even though it had many things I enjoyed. And, I know this shouldn't count since this is something I knew/cared about after, but she famously hates fanfic. If you don't like fanfic, I don't like you *shrug emoji*

A Big Dull Dud~ 5,000-

The love interest contractor guy? He's just kind of boring. Oh, maybe that's why she succumbs to the demon.

This. Book. Has. Everything~ 750,000+

You know what I love? A sweeping family history. Gimme that shit right now. I used to go crazy for those Sweet Valley books that were, like, the Wakefield Saga or whatever. When this book was recommended to me, I went to the library immediately (libraries are good~ Several Million+) to get it. I loved every second of reading about the family history and the protagonist learning her magic. I was LOCKED in. And then.

There's a Demon in Me~ 1.5 million-

The women in this family are cursed by a demon, Lasher, who has spent centuries seducing them, and brought them nothing but ruin and downfall. THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE LONG-ASS BOOK, the protagonist is told not to have sex with the demon. So what does she do as soon as Lasher shows up? HAVE SEX WITH THE DEMON. I had less than a hundred pages left and I was too disgusted to finish. I know, I know, he's a demon, he seduced her, etc, etc, etc. But I don't care. I have never loved a book so much to be let down so hard.

Verdict: Booooooooooooooooooooooo
